EVM Calculator
Four numbers from your status report, and the full earned value picture: cost and schedule performance, where the program will land, and how much better the remaining work has to go to hit the budget. Then take the same metrics into Power BI as DAX.
Status as of your reporting date
Pre-filled with the status-date numbers from the EVM dashboard tutorial. Any currency works; amounts are shown with $ for readability.
Over budget and behind schedule for the work completed so far.
CPI
0.90
Each $1 spent earned $0.90 of planned work.
SPI
0.64
Work is being done at 64% of the planned rate.
Cost variance
-$26,500
Spent more than the completed work is worth.
Schedule variance
-$136,890
Value of planned work not yet done.
EAC
$582,609
Forecast total cost at completion.
ETC
$314,609
Still to spend from today.
VAC
-$57,609
Forecast overrun against BAC.
TCPI
1.10
The rest must run 10% more efficiently to hit BAC.
The same metrics as DAX measures
Built on the PV, EV, AC, and BAC measures from the tutorial, using the EAC you picked. Paste each one into New measure.
CV (Cost Variance) =
[EV (Earned Value)] - [AC (Actual Cost)]
SV (Schedule Variance) =
[EV (Earned Value)] - [PV (Planned Value)]
CPI (Cost Performance Index) =
DIVIDE([EV (Earned Value)], [AC (Actual Cost)])
SPI (Schedule Performance Index) =
DIVIDE([EV (Earned Value)], [PV (Planned Value)])
EAC (Estimate at Completion) = -- BAC / CPI
DIVIDE([BAC (Budget at Completion)], [CPI (Cost Performance Index)])
ETC (Estimate to Complete) =
[EAC (Estimate at Completion)] - [AC (Actual Cost)]
VAC (Variance at Completion) =
[BAC (Budget at Completion)] - [EAC (Estimate at Completion)]
TCPI (To-Complete Performance Index) =
DIVIDE(
[BAC (Budget at Completion)] - [EV (Earned Value)],
[BAC (Budget at Completion)] - [AC (Actual Cost)]

One snapshot isn't a trend. CPI and SPI are most useful tracked period over period, and SPI drifts back toward 1.0 near the end of any program as the remaining planned work runs out, even a late one. The EVM dashboard tutorial builds these as measures over a task list so you can watch them move.
For the formulas on their own, see Earned Value Management (EVM) Metrics, or browse all the Power BI tools.
